We have closely followed news pertaining to the temporary closure and eventual reopening of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure theme parks. As we have covered the phased reopening of Disneyland Resort, news has continued to surface regarding how Disney officials and locals have felt about the continued closure of the parks.
This week, Disneyland Resort and other California parks — as well as the City of Anaheim — have urged Governor Gavin Newsom to provide guidelines for reopening theme parks in the state. And now, Disney is continuing to speak out.
OC Register reports that Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock has issued a statement to share Disney’s disappointment with the “lack of progress” in reopening theme parks in California.
“We are disappointed with the state’s lack of progress in providing the industry with guidance and clarity on reopening,” Potrock stated. “We have proven we can operate responsibly, with strict health and safety protocols at our properties around the world and at Downtown Disney in Anaheim.”
Potrock’s statement continued, “Tens of thousands of people’s livelihoods depend on our ability to operate and we stand ready and willing to accelerate discussions with the Governor and his team to make ‘real progress’ toward our reopening and getting people back to work.”
Downtown Disney reopened with strict health and safety measures on July 9. That began the phased reopening of the Disneyland Resort, but there is still no word on when Disneyland and Disney California Adventure — or when the three onsite hotels — can or will reopen. Disney officials have reiterated that they have been “ready to reopen” the southern California Disney Parks since July.

The latest update from Newsom stated that progress is being made when it comes to discussions surrounding the reopening of theme parks and amusement parks in the state. But since then, Disney, Universal, and others have urged the governor to provide them with more information.
