Family Support Servies (FSS) is the supporting arm of the community action teams at The Potter's House. We believe that people are important and should have the opportunities, support and encouragement to help themselves to make the right choices for their lives and for the communities they live in.
The aim of FSS is to develop and oversee the running of a number of projects which provide support to individuals and families in the form of training, one-to-one counselling or group support. For all our counselling services we work to BACP (British Association of Counselling and Pyschotherapists) guidelines.

Pregnancy Crisis Centre
We are affiliated to Care Confidential which supports over 150 centres across the UK. We provide support for those that have a Crisis pregnancy offering a listening ear and enabling them to make an informed choice about their situation.
We also offer support for those that have suffered a miscarriage, stillbirth or neo-natal death and we also provide help for those that have had an abortion, enabling them to deal with the often hidden grief that they suffer. We are in the planning stages of providing a support network for those families that have experienced a premature birth, giving them a place to share their experiences.
Domestic Abuse
We run a support service for those who have suffered, or are still suffering from domestic abuse. We provide both practical and emotional help to mainly women in the North Staffordshire area. We recognise that men, women and children are affected by domestic abuse.
Our service offers one-to-one counselling, group support, help related to court/solicitor visits and we offer practical support for those wishing to leave home quickly. We work closely with the DV Unit of the police and we are affiliated to Women’s Aid.
We do not offer refuge places at this time, but we do run an outreach service. We aim to meet each person at the stage they are at and we will support whatever decision is made whether that is to leave the abusive situation or to stay. Abuse is not always physical and we understand that psychological abuse can often be harder to heal than physical abuse.
We want to show each individual that they are of value and that they are loved, when often all their worth has been stripped away from them.

The amount of clients we see is breathtaking. It is a delight to be able to share and counsel so many, yet it is heartbreaking to see so many in pain. However, there is always hope and Susan's story is a great example of that.
