If you love Harry Potter, here are 7 other fantasy movies on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and …

When it comes to fantasy literature and movies, the Potterheads will proudly agree that nothing can come even remotely close to the Harry Potter franchise, while secretly hoping for their Hogwarts letter to arrive. Unless, of course, you’re a Muggle. While it will be unfair to draw a comparison, there are many movies that spin a fantasy story with equal perfection, if not better. We’ve shortlisted some of the best fantasy movies on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and Disney+Hotstar that you can watch if you like Harry Potter.
Based on CS Lewis’ novel of the same name, this classic movie was an important part of our childhood for most of us. No one will judge you if you say that as a kid you once went inside your wardrobe, just to see if there’s a hidden door that leads to a magical world. The story revolves around four siblings who find a wardrobe that leads them to a fantasy world called Narnia, where they come across various adventures and are forced to fight an evil witch. The movie features James McAvoy, Tilda Swinton, William Moseley, Anna Popplewell, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley.
A spin-off and prequel to the Harry Potter series, the movie revolves around Newt Scamander, a British wizard and magizoologist, who embarks on an adventurous hunt to search for the magical creatures who escaped from his suitcase. Written by JK Rowling, the fantasy movie features Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterson, Dan Fogler, Carmen Ejogo, Ezra Miller and Colin Farrell.
If there’s one filmmaker who has mastered the theme of fairy tales and myths and explored it fully to his advantage, it is director Guillermo del Toro. Pan’s Labyrinth is a fantasy movie featuring Ivana Baquero, Sergi Lopez, Maribel Verdu, Doug Jones and Ariadna Gil. Set in 1944 in Spain, the story revolves around a girl named Ofelia, who comes across a mythical world where she meets some strange magical creatures while living with her mother and step-father during the Spanish Civil War.
Directed by Chris Columbus, the action-fantasy film is the first instalment in the Percy Jackson series and features Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Abel, Sean Bean and Pierce Brosnan. Based on the novel The Lightning Thief, the story revolves around a teenager who learns that he’s actually the descendant of a Greek god. As if this wasn’t enough to deal with for a high-school boy, he now has to race against time to settle an on-going war between the gods.
A fantasy adventure drama written and directed by Joe Cornish, the story revolves around four kids who, after stumbling upon King Arthur’s legendary sword, set out on an adventurous journey to stop an ancient demon from destroying the world. The film features Louis Ashbourne Serkis, Tom Taylor, Dean Chaumoo, Denise Gough, Rhianna Dorris and Rebecca Ferguson.
Starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Dakota Blue Richards, Sam Elliott, Eva Green and Ian McKellen, The Golden Compass is a fantasy adventure film based on Philip Pullman’s novel Northern Lights. Set in a parallel world, the story revolves around a young girl named Lyra Belacqua, who embarks on a dangerous journey to rescue her friend and other people who disappeared mysteriously.
Directed by Peter Jackson, the film is one of the highest-grossing movies of all time and counted among the greatest and most influential films ever made. The first instalment in The Lord of the Rings trilogy revolves Frodo, a young hobbit and eight companions who set out to save the world after Frodo comes across the One Ring that belongs to the Dark Lord Sauron. The film features Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Liv Tyler and Cate Blanchett among others.
