Hogwarts Legacy announced as 1800s open world Harry Potter RPG

Hogwarts Legacy has finally been revealed. Two years after the first leak, the Harry Potter RPG was officially announced at the Sony Showcase. The game takes us to 1800s Hogwarts as an open-world RPG. And true to RPG nature, you’ll get to create your own character, craft potions, master spells, and all that good stuff.
Fans of Harry Potter, myself included, will be ecstatic to return to Hogwarts. Especially considering the leak dropped so long ago and the community eagerly awaited more information as more and more rumors came in. Some even feared the game was canceled. Fortunately, we can all rest easy and wait for 2021 to pack our trunks to attend the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Hogwarts Legacy sees us, a new student, begin his or her first term at the wizarding school. A bit odd, since we’re a late attendant, but it gets stranger: we turn out to be someone who possesses the ability to perceive and channel “Ancient Magic”. And by the look of things, we get to decide if we’re going to be a good guy or a bad guy with it.
Set in the 1800s, it means we won’t likely see any familiar faces. Which could be disappointing for some, but at least we know it won’t mess with the Harry Potter continuity, whether the game’s story is considered canon or not. With us “deciding the fate of the wizarding world”, however, I’d wager that the implications are so large that the story is most likely not added to the franchise canon.
Hopefully though, with the open-worldness of the game, we’ll get to fully explore the castle, its houses’ common rooms, the kitchens, and all that good stuff that was largely left out of the movies. Check out the trailer below and let that theme song send chills all over your body.
