Disney history exhibit reopens at the Bowers Museum after coronavirus closure

Attention Disney buffs: The Bowers Museum is reopening Saturday, Sept. 12 and will be extending its popular Disney history exhibit until Feb. 28. The museum was forced to shut down because of the novel coronavirus pandemic shortly after its March 7 grand opening, with only a brief reopening.
This is very good news for the region’s many Disneyphiles, because they’ll once again have a chance to see “Inside the Walt Disney Archives: 50 Years of Preserving the Magic” at the Santa Ana museum, before the exhibit begins its world tour. The show features 465 items seldom or never displayed from the company’s archives, including the golden mechanical bird that Walt Disney bought for his wife, that inspired the idea for animatronic animals and the Enchanted Tiki Room. Film costumes, important company memos, concept art and more are also on view.
The Bowers Gallery Store and Tangata Restaurant will also be open. Tickets for the Disney show and Bowers’ other exhibits cost $23-$25 for adults, $20-$22 for students and seniors and $5 for children ages 3-11. Tickets will be limited to allow for social distancing. Learn more at
Visitors to the Bowers must enter through the Main Street entrance only, have their temperatures taken, wear masks and observe social distancing protocols. No benches for seating, wheelchair rentals or handouts will be available.
People can also use their mobile devices to visit and see exhibit highlights, alongside fun facts and staff favorites. The Bowers has also set up a storytelling portal on its website (available only on the desktop site) where people can share their own stories.
