Though he was not directly asked about theme parks today during his press conference, Governor Gavin Newsom did say that California continues to negotiate with the state’s theme parks to determine a reopening date.
“Conversations are ongoing,” teased Newsom,” as California is “getting closer to concluding when and how to reopen theme parks.”
Meanwhile, Orange County moved into the “red” tier of the state’s COVID-19, color-coded reopening system. While encouraging, the progression to a higher tier requires a county to maintain lower case numbers for two straight weeks. Only then would new businesses be allowed to reopen. Governor Newsom has maintained that a county in California must remain at its current tier for three weeks before moving to the next one in the phased system.
Although it appears that the state of California’s discussions with its theme parks are outside of those with its other businesses, there seems to be no planned date for the reopening of Disneyland at this time.
Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro has maintained that Disney has been “ready to go” since July 17, Disneyland’s previously announced reopening date.
